When you add a birdbath to your garden, birds tend to hang around more. They often come back several times each day, especially when the weather is warm.
Birds are attracted to moving water. They love it when it splashes or drips. They do make a mechanism that will adapt to any birdbath to move the water around. They also make water fountains that can be put in your birdbath. I found them online for about $30.00.
It is crucial that you have correct placement for your birdbath. Your bath should be put in a place free from shrubs. Sometimes when bird are done taking a bath, they like to fly to a nearby branch to dry off or to offer a quick escape route in case of predators.
There are many different style of birdbaths to choose from. Picking what type you want or need may be complicated. There are so many choices out there. Which on do you choose?
Here are some questions and answers to help you when looking for a beautiful birdbath for your home.
Think of your style. Do you like Vintage, Modern, Victorian, etc? Choose which style best works with your landscape, home and style. Some different varieties are solar powered, heated, hanging, pedestal, fountains, 2-level, 3-level birdbaths.
What is your budget? This is very important. Set your price and work our way down.
What type of material is best? They come in resin, stone, wood, cement and metal, to name a few. Resin ones are easiest to keep clean, however the bottoms can be very slippery. The birds might slip. The bottom should not be smooth.
Make sure the water is shallow enough. No more than 3" in the center. Small birds have been known to drown in a birdbath with too much water.
Is the bath easy to assemble? Choose one that is easy to set up. Read all directions carefully.
Will it clean up easily? Many things will fall into the birdbath, so make sure to keep it clean.
